Mary Butts Project
We are exhibiting ten substantial pieces at the parallax Art Fair (Stand No 12) at Kensington Town Hall in the first weekend of July this year. Collectively the works are a tribute to the writer Mary Butts, who was my grandmother, and either an associate, or friend and/or correspondent, in Paris, of James Joyce, Jean Cocteau, TS Elliot, Gertrude Stein, Virginia and Leonard Woolf, and Jack Johnson, among many others. In recent years she has been rediscovered as a neglected early 20thC feminist writer, mystic and ecological activist for whom substantive efforts are currently in hand among academics and researchers, and through her US publishers, MacPherson, who seek to reinstate her work in the public consciousness. The preceding weekend I will be at The University of Bristol, to give a presentation to an international audience as the executor of her literary estate, when I will also be publicising our Parallax Mary Butts exhibition. If you would like to apply for this position you might like to give some generalised thought to how you might proceed if you were the only person on our stand when a potential buyer expresses an interest in one of our Mary Butts' pieces.
To apply please contact Danny at danny@dannyisrael.com and state why you think you might be suitable for this internship. We hope to make an appointment during June and we look forward to hearing from you at the first opportunity. This page will be taken down once our search is complete.
