Sustainability and Upcycling
Dining Table
We found this table abandoned in the street. It was missing the bolts for the legs and was variously scorched, scuffed and dented. We filled and sanded it, and reattached the legs with bolts we already had in stock. We resealed and undercoated it, and applied our studio trademark colour scheme in gold leaf, gamboge, rose, Prussian blue, ultramarine, viridian, cerise and turquoise, mixed with a little glitter and using our fish device from our Croatian Night Fishing series of paintings. Several applications later, and after three coats of yacht varnish - the hardest-wearing varnish we are aware of - our table is ready for another thirty years.
Wine Box Bar Stools
What can we do with an empty wooden wine box? We put our heads together and came up with these Original Wine Box Bar Stools, some with Secret Compartments! These sustainable artist-made upcycled Wine Box Bar Stools combine abandoned wooden wine boxes with discarded estate agents' signboard posts recovered from builders' skips and roadsides, along with random offcuts from other projects ongoing in the studio. They are sealed and sanded and will darken to a mellow chestnut colour over time. Now we can memorialize our favourite wine long after its bottle has returned to its maker, and with a completely clear conscience, secure in the knowledge that our box will provide the best possible sustainable use as an item of furniture for years to come. These Wine Box Bar Stools come in two sizes - The Magnum and The Methuselah - and will also differ in branding, depending on the ones we have in stock at any given time. With adjustable feet and at c. 70 cms in height they are ideal for wine bars, restaurants, mancaves, kitchen islands, studios and workshops. Click on the gallery image below for a better view.
